Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen today extended her condolences to the family of former St. Croix Democratic Senator William “Bill” Harvey who died in Florida on Friday.

“Bill Harvey was a well known and loved political figure and journalist on St. Croix for many years,” said Congresswoman Christensen on Friday.  “He served in many capacities in our local government including Senator, and Director of our Civil Defense agency, the forerunner to VITEMA as well as many other government agencies,” she said.  “Senator Harvey also worked as a reporter to the St. Croix Avis and had a television talk show in the 70s,” Christensen recalled.  “He loved St. Croix very much and worked very hard to serve our people,” she said.  “When he retired to Florida, he took the public service bug with him, becoming a member of the Deltona City Commission and its Vice Mayor.”  Congresswoman Christensen said that Bill Harvey lived a long and productive life, one in which he served the people around him.  “Those of us who benefitted from his service will remember him well.”
