Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen invites the community to attend an informational meeting that will focus on the designation of St. Croix as National Heritage Area. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at The New Drive Inn. “We want to hear your ideas, concerns, suggestions, and vision for the future of St. Croix,” said Congresswoman Christensen. Delegate Christensen encourages the public to attend this and other upcoming St. Croix National Heritage Area public meetings.
“It is very important that the community to come out and actively engage in these meetings,” Christensen said. “The designation of St. Croix as a National Heritage Area will encourage the preservation and celebration of St. Croix as a historic and heritage landscape. The first and very critical step to achieving this is community engagement and support” she continued. “We have a rich and bold story to tell—of our culture, our heritage, our environment, our greatness. It is important that have our entire community’s story to be a part of this project”. The designation of St. Croix as a National Heritage Area would mean that it would join a network of existing Heritage Areas across the nation, not only making it an excellent heritage tourism destination to visitors but also enriching our story so that it may be passed on to our children for generations to come.
