FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 15, 2008
Contact: Katie Laning (202)224-4843

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor along with U.S. Representative Vic Snyder (AR-02) announced today that the U. S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Division has selected Petit Jean Farms LLC to receive $98,500 in assistance under the Value-Added Producer Grant Program.  This funding will support a feasibility study to better facilitate on-farm processing and marketing of lamb meat to health and environmentally conscious consumers.

“This grant will allow Petit Jean Farms to expand its market and increase revenue, further strengthening the economy of Central Arkansas and the entire state. Arkansas is fortunate to have companies like Petit Jean that offer high quality products to the customers they serve and enhance the reputation of our state,” Lincoln said.

“These funds will expand vital agricultural opportunities for Arkansans,” said Pryor.  “I commend Petit Jean Farms for seeking these funds and their continuing economic investment in our rural communities.”

This funding will support Petit Jean Farms LLC, a family owned meat and honey farm near Morrilton, Arkansas, as it develops its business operations for a target market.

Since 2001, over $90 billion in assistance has been provided by USDA Rural Development to improve economic development and address the diverse and unique needs of rural communities.
