NELSON: STIMULUS PACKAGE GOOD FIRST STEP TO BOLSTER ECONOMY

February 13, 2008 - Today, President George W. Bush signed into law a package to provide tax rebates and incentives to workers, seniors, disabled veterans and small businesses, while benefitting over 800,000 Nebraskans. Nebraska's Senator Ben Nelson issued the following statement:

"I applaud the speed with which Congress and the President completed this stimulus package. This is an important piece of legislation that will provide a boost to our economy and is a good first step to getting things back on track.

"I'm pleased as well that the IRS has announced that the process to receive the rebate checks will not require any further action on the part of taxpayers as long as they file a 2007 tax return. This is an example of how great things can get done when every branch of the government decides to work as one."
