Services: College Internships

Photo of a young person looking enthusiastically up at the camera.Nebraska’s Senator Ben Nelson's internship program provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn and serve through first-hand participation in government service. The program is designed to augment undergraduate studies and is not limited to students majoring in a specific discipline. Internships are available in our Washington D.C., Omaha and Lincoln offices.

We welcome all applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence and have displayed a commitment to public service. Priority is given to Nebraska residents; however, students from all backgrounds may apply. We are happy to work with your college or university to ensure that the internship meets any requirements established to qualify for academic credit.

Modest stipends are available to both part-time and full-time interns.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS:

Please complete all sections of the application thoroughly and submit the requested materials together. The internship selection process is competitive and the stronger your application, the more likely you may be selected. Incomplete applications may not be considered. Your application must include all of the following:

  1. Internship application form
  2. Current resume
  3. Essay (up to 500 words) describing why you want to be an intern in Senator Nelson's office and what you expect to derive from the internship
  4. Two letters of recommendation including a teacher/professor

In some instances, personal or telephone interviews may be conducted. All materials must be submitted together. Please keep a photocopy of your application. We are unable to return any of the materials received.
