Transportation
Congressman Souder's Position
Construction on County Road 17 in Elkhart County.
Indiana is known as the “Crossroads of America.” Our transportation infrastructure is important to the economy of the United States and fundamental to the economy of northern Indiana. Without a well-integrated, well-maintained transportation system the goods we produce in our area would be unable to move to market. It is vital that our transportations systems (railroads, airports, and highways) be connected in a way that speeds trade with minimal obstacles.
It is also imperative that federal, state, and local governments work together on their transportation projects so that taxpayer money is used competently and projects are compatible and co-ordinated with one another. Moreover, identifying current and future transportation needs through long-term planning is crucial if Indiana is going to attract and keep businesses.
