Postal Reform

Postal Reform

Congressman Souder's Position

Since the Postal Service was last reformed in the 1970s, the nature of communications has changed dramatically. The drop in mail volume, particularly in the past decade, means it is imperative that we change the way the Postal Service operates.

I believe the Postal Service must become more efficient and flexible if it is to survive. At the same time, it must also maintain its traditional mandate of connecting all parts of the country. During this Congress, the House and Senate have made significant progress toward reforming the postal service. While not perfect, I believe this reform will mean a better Postal Service for mailers and customers alike. During consideration of this bill, I have worked with both mailers and Postal employees to ensure that this reform package is the best package possible.
