IssuesInsuranceInsuranceRelated Issue(s): Banking Congressman Souder's PositionThe Third District is home to major offices of several large insurance companies, including Fort Wayne-based Lincoln National, which specializes in annuities, SwissRe, which helps other life and health insurance companies more effectively manage their capital, and Aon, a leading provider of risk management services. With the insurance industry playing such a significant role in northeast Indiana’s economy, I am a member of the Congressional Insurance Caucus, which helps keep me aware of ways to strengthen these important employers’ competitiveness and visibility. With the demographic trends facing our country, more and more Americans will depend on increasingly sophisticated insurance products to ensure their retirement security. For example, as we see businesses move away from traditional defined benefit pension plans and life spans continue to grow, annuities and long-term care insurance will be a critical way for individuals to guarantee a stable retirement. I will continue to work to support the insurance industry by making it easier for families to protect their retirement through the purchase of these new and innovative insurance packages.
