House-Passed Highway Bill Includes $5 Million for C.R. 17 in Elkhart County

Souder-Requested Funding is $2 Million Greater than Expected

March 10, 2005
U.S. Rep. Mark Souder announced today that H.R. 3, the Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users, specifically authorizes an unexpected $2 million—which will be in addition to an original $3 million amount already in the bill—for County Road 17 in Elkhart County. Souder requested these federal highway funds, which will now total $5 million, for C.R. 17. The House passed H.R. 3 today, with Souder’s support, by a bipartisan majority vote of 417-9.

“This extra $2 million, on top of the $3 million I thought we would get for County Road 17 as a result of my request, is an unexpected bonus for Elkhart County,” Souder said. “Ensuring that our roads are adequate is critical to maintaining a strong economy in northcentral and northeast Indiana.”

“County Road 17 provides a vital corridor between Elkhart and Kosciusko Counties,” Souder added.

H.R. 3 will be sent to the Senate for further action.
