Area School Receives Science Award
9/9/2008 – Rep. Dicks meets with representatives from Key Peninsula Middle School in Lakebay, who were in the Nation’s Capital on Sept. 8th to receive a “Schools of Distinction” Award as part of a nationwide math and science competition sponsored by the Intel Corporation. Schools receiving the awards, which consist of $10,000 in addition products and services from competition sponsors, are commended for developing an environment and curricula that meet or exceed national mathematics and science content standards and other benchmarks.

8/6/2008 – The revised Request For Proposal (RFP) issued today by the Defense Department includes substantive changes that appear to favor a tanker larger than any real-world scenarios would require and that appear to diminish the substantially greater life-cycle costs of buying a bigger aircraft.

House Passes Comprehensive Response to Mortgage Crisis
7/24/2008 – Many American families are struggling through the current mortgage and foreclosure crisis. In Washington State foreclosures were up 69 percent last month compared to just one year ago, an increase greater than the national average of 53 percent. Pierce County was hit particularly hard in the Puget Sound region, with one in 483 households in trouble.

Norm is "Skeptical" of Pentagon's Ability to Conduct Fair Tanker Re-Competition
7/9/2008 – Press Release: U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks said today that he has serious doubts about the ability of the Defense Department to conduct a renewed competition that is fair and open and that meets the “real world” requirements of refueling U.S. military aircraft. The congressman, who serves as vice-chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee in the House, said he has learned that the new competition will include a higher priority for a bigger airplane, repeating a bias that resulted in stinging criticism from the independent Government Accountability Office.
