In 2006, Medicare began offering prescription drug coverage to seniors who choose to participate in the new program. If you currently have prescription drug coverage and are pleased with the terms and prices you may not want to consider the new Medicare Prescription Drug plan. No one is required to change their prescription drug coverage. However, if you feel your prescription insurance premiums are too high, you may want to consider the new Medicare Part D that now provides prescription coverage.
To receive the Medicare prescription drug coverage, you must choose and enroll in a Medicare prescription drug plan. To find out which plan better serves you, contact the Florida Department of Elder Affairs at 1-800-963-5337 or visit www.medicare.gov.
As with all insurance programs there are premiums and co-pays associated with your coverage. However, many people with limited incomes will qualify for help with these expenses. For information and to get extra help with prescription drug costs and how to apply, call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 or visit www.socialsecurity.gov.
