The City of Palatka has received official "Weed and Seed" designation from the   US Department of Justice and is now eligible for additional federal assistance in combating drugs and crime. 

     The Weed and Seed Program was established in 1991 with the goal of creating a community-based multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention, and neighborhood revitalization.  Working with the Office of the US Attorney, local law enforcement agencies target high-crime areas to eradicate drug trafficking and violent crime in order to "weed" out criminal activity.  Local volunteer and civic groups then work to "seed" community restoration through prevention, intervention, treatment and physical improvement of the area.

     With this new designation the residents and leaders of the City of Palatka can begin to take back its streets from the influences of drugs and crime.  In addition, the new additional sources of funding will provide direct assistance to community volunteer organizations.
