Working with the City of Edgewater and the Daytona Beach YMCA, Congressman Mica was able to secure federal grant assistance to help finish the construction of an emergency shelter that also serves southeast Volusia County as a community center.

     On January 11, 2001, the YMCA Hawks Parks Complex opened as a community recreation center for public use.  Located at 148 West Turgot Boulevard in Edgewater, the site also serves as a regional emergency center during hurricanes, fires and other natural disasters.
