In July 2005, Rep. Mica secured $8 million in federal funds for the planning, design and construction of commuter rail and bus intermodal stations. Of this money, $418,000 has been approved for the Longwood Intermodal Facility.  Under the management of the Florida Department of Transportation, the Central Florida Commuter Rail project is now proceeding into Preliminary Engineering and additional planning to determine specific station locations and costs. Negotiations are underway with CSX for the State to either purchase or lease the tracks and move freight rail from this congested corridor.
