Votran started out in a 5,000-square-foot building with 80 employees in 1977. By the late 1990s there were 200 employees and a decidedly cramped headquarters in South Daytona. Congressman Mica secured $4.16 million in federal money to help build the new facility on Big Tree Road that opened in 1998. It more than tripled the old location’s size at 16,932 square feet and includes areas for administration and operations. There are also public meeting rooms used by some of the county’s advisory boards. Total cost for the new facility was $5.2 million. The old building is now used for maintenance.
