EducationNo Child Left BehindSince its passage there has been a lot of discussion and debate on No Child Left Behind (NCLB). I am pleased that (NCLB) has given local school districts greater input when it comes to deciding how to spend the federal dollars they receive. The 110th Congress is taking steps towards reauthorizing NCLB. The House Education and Labor Committee has held nearly two dozen hearings and has heard from over 100 education groups. Below is a link to summaries of the committee’s NCLB Reauthorization Discussion Draft. As with every issue, I appreciate hearing constituent feedback about NCLB.
No Child Left Behind FundingIn Congress, I have worked with the House leadership to reduce the Department of Education's bureaucracy, eliminate ineffective programs, and hold the Department more accountable for the money it receives and spends. This will ensure that more funding is sent to local districts. I would rather see our federal dollars end up in Kentucky's classrooms than in the hands of a Washington bureaucrat. As we address education issues, you can be assured that I will continue to fight for more local control, more parental involvement, higher standards, and more accountability. Head StartIn the 110th Congress I was proud to support the Improving Head Start Act. This bipartisan bill strengthens Head Start’s teacher and classroom quality, boosts coordination between Head Start and state and local early childhood programs, and increases its financial accountability. Student Financial AidI am well aware of the high cost of higher education. Learn more about financial aid opportunities.
