Bill funding Vermont transportation needs clears House, sent to President

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Peter Welch (VT-AL) supported and the House passed H.R. 6532, the Highway Trust Fund Restoration Act, to address a projected shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund and restore more than $8 billion in federal funding for states.

The bill, which has cleared the Senate and will now be sent to the President for his signature, restores over $47 million in federal transportation funding for Vermont's roads and bridges.

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. House today passed a bill authored by Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) that initiates the process of designating Vermont's Missisquoi and Trout Rivers "wild and scenic."

"The Missisquoi and Trout Rivers are remarkable natural and cultural resources. This bill will help ensure future generations may cherish and enjoy these local treasures," said Welch. "I am pleased the House of Representatives agrees with the importance of protecting these Vermont assets and ensuring they are managed for public enjoyment for years to come."

Washington, D.C. - Today Senator Chuck Grassley and Congressman Peter Welch hosted a roundtable on college endowments titled, Maximizing the Use of Endowment Funds and Making Higher Education More Affordable.

The roundtable explored the relationship between endowment value and college cost, the legal and accounting definitions of what an endowment is, and the impact of legislation requiring a mandatory payout from endowment funds.
