High School Aerospace Scholars

High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) is an interactive online learning experience for high school juniors in Texas. Selected students are nominated by their State Legislator, have an interest in math, science, engineering or computer science and are encouraged to consider high tech careers. Participation is highlighted by a six-day experience at the Johnson Space Center where students have the opportunity to interact with engineers. Teachers from across Texas will also have the opportunity to serve as mentors during the summer.

Middle School Aerospace Scholars

This is a unique program designed for middle school teachers. Also funded by the State of Texas and administered by NASA's Johnson Space Center, selected teachers will participate in a one-week summer professional development workshop at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. Teams of teachers will learn to integrate NASA instructional materials into their classroom curriculum and develop an action plan to implement during the following school year. A series of distance learning events held at the participants' schools are also included in this program.

Community College Aerospace Scholars

Funded by the Texas legislature, Community College Aerospace Scholars, or CAS, gives teams of community college students from across the state of Texas an opportunity to participate in a unique on-site team project. Students are involved in web-based interactive activities prior to their arrival at Johnson Space Center. They then spend three days during either the fall or spring semester on-site taking part in an exploration team project which allows students to work with NASA engineers and scientists in a real-life environment to design and present a project proposal.  The workshop is funded by CAS with a minimal registration fee for each scholar.

Texas Aerospace Scholars Internship

Interested students must be TAS program alumni, which encompasses former student participants of High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) and Community College Aerospace Scholars (CAS).  Qualified applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) degree field.
