The Helix Systems group runs high-performance computing systems for the intramural NIH community. The group is part of the Division of Computer System Services, Center for Information Technology. We are responsible for the planning and management of centrally located high performance computers specifically designated for scientific use at NIH.
The Helix Systems currently comprise high-performance shared and distributed memory systems which are closely integrated and connected by high-speed networks. Accounts on the systems are available to all intramural NIH staff. The rate for the use of the Helix Systems is $19 per month and $.0033 per MB per day disk storage charge.
In association with other elements of the branch and division, the group also:
- evaluates new high performance architectures and introduces them into production work at NIH
- installs and supports scientific application programs
- facilitates electronic information access and distribution
- supports servers for and incorporates high performance systems into an NIH distributed computing environment
- consults and collaborates with researchers at NIH
- presents classes and seminars relating to scientific computing
