Press Release

TWO MIAMI RESIDENTS SENTENCED IN CONNECTION WITH CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE OVER 1500 KILOGRAMS OF COCAINE IN SOUTH FLORIDA

March 25, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Jonathan I. Solomon, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Michael E. Yasofsky, Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division, John Timoney, Chief of the Miami Police Department, and Robert Parker, Director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, announced the sentencing of defendants, Ali Louis Adam, a/k/a Zoe, a/k/a Chip, age 32, and Graylin Kelly, a/k/a Lucky, a/k/a G, age 35, each to 30 years imprisonment. In January of this year, Ali Adam and Graylin Kelly each pled guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, and to conspiracy to commit money laundering.

This joint-investigation by the FBI’s Violent Street Gangs Task Force revealed that between 1998 and 2005, Ali Adam managed an organization that primarily supplied drugs to a group of young men in Carol City , in an area called “The Block.” According to court records, this group of men used several different stash houses on NW176th Street . Defendant Adam set the price for the kilograms he sold to them, and they, in turn, distributed cocaine throughout South Florida . The investigation revealed that Adam’s organization used AK-47 assault rifles to protect their cocaine. Adam received the vast majority of his cocaine from sources in Haiti , but also purchased cocaine from Mexican sources in Los Angeles . During this time period, Adam distributed more than1,500 kilograms of cocaine. Adam’s drug trafficking business allowed him to drive luxury automobiles and live in a high-end apartment on South Beach .

Beginning in 2002, Graylin Kelly acted as Adam’s lieutenant in this organization. Kelly accompanied Adam to Los Angeles to purchase cocaine, and then later distributed cocaine in Miami . Kelly was apprehended in February of 2007, after fleeing a traffic stop by the Miramar Police Department. During the chase, Kelly pointed a pistol at the officers, but was shot before he was able to fire at the officers.

Adam and Kelly used a variety of means to launder their drug proceeds, including mortgage fraud as means to launder the illegal drug proceeds. They also invested in various front businesses, including a coin laundry, a fast-food franchise, and a record label known as House of Fire Records. Adam and Kelly also used their girlfriends to assist them with laundering drug proceeds by using their girlfriends’ credit cards to make purchases, and then reimburse them with cash.

Mr. Acosta commended the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division, the Miami Police Department, and the Miami-Dade Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Patrick Sullivan, Todd W. Mestepey, and Christopher Hunter.
