The FBI has been designated by the U.S. Attorney General to investigate terrorist offenses against U.S. persons or property abroad. Additionally, the FBI may also assist foreign governments in investigating violations of foreign law even when there has been no violation of U.S. law. The Miami Division is responsible for addressing extraterritorial violations of American citizens in the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Mexico. The multicultural population of South Florida, and close proximity to the countries in its jurisdiction, makes the Miami Division unique among all Field Offices.
