50th Anniversary

Celebrating 50 Years

In 2011 Peace Corps will celebrate its 50th anniversary. To commemorate these 50 years of service and to honor the individuals who have dedicated themselves to promoting the organization's mission of world peace and friendship, the Peace Corps is helping organize events and exhibitions in cities across the U.S. and in each country where Peace Corps currently serves. Please continue reading to learn how you can help celebrate Peace Corps' rich history and dedicated Volunteers.

Attend 50th Anniversary Events

Join in celebrating the Peace Corps' first 50 years while looking ahead to the next 50. Events range from a two-year traveling exhibition beginning in 2009 to a multi-day festival on the National Mall in Washington, DC in September 2011.

Coming soon: Contribute to the 50th Anniversary Archive

Start combing through your old photo albums now. Beginning in August 2008, we will be collecting materials that illustrate the rich history of the Peace Corps to add to our 50th anniversary archive. Check back soon for more information on how to submit your materials.

Coming soon: 50th Anniversary In-Country Activities

In countries where Peace Corps Volunteers serve, we are planning both 50th anniversary events and a commemorative 50th Anniversary Partnership Program project. We will add event details as they become known. Additionally, the 50th Anniversary Partnership Program projects will be identified and highlighted.
