The 2008 Bald Eagle Commemorative Coins are now on sale! These commemorative coins are available in gold, silver and clad, in both proof and uncirculated conditions. Three (3) limited-edition sets are also available—the Bald Eagle Three-Coin Proof Set, the Bald Eagle Young Collector’s Set and the Bald Eagle Coin and Medal Set. Please be advised the Bald Eagle Commemorative Coin brochure contains invalid information in the pricing area for the Coin and Medal Set (EA9) and the Young Collector’s Set (EA8). The brochure incorrectly lists the price for the Coin and Medal Set (EA9) as $14.95. The correct price for the Coin and Medal Set is $44.95. The brochure incorrectly lists the price of the Young Collector’s Set (EA8) as $44.95. The correct price for the Young Collector’s Set is $14.95. The prices on the order card and the United States Mint website are valid. Prices listed in the brochure for these two products will not be honored.

These proof and uncirculated gold coins are being struck to honor Dolley Madison as a part of the First Spouse Gold Coin series. The obverse, designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart, features a portrait of Dolley Madison. The reverse, designed by Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart, portrays a famous act of heroism in which Dolley Madison saved White House cabinet papers and a Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington from destruction at the hands of oncoming British troops who occupied and burned Washington, DC, during the War of 1812.
