Circuit Judge Lourie to Speak at Virginia State Bar Intellectual Property Program: Circuit Judge Alan D. Lourie will speak at the 20th Annual Intellectual Property Fall CLE Weekend Seminar in Williamsburg, Virginia on September 27, 2008. Judge Lourie's topic is "Practicing Before the Federal Circuit." Chief Judge Michel Will Keynote the Third Annual BNA/ABA Section of IP Law Patent Conference: Chief Judge Michel will present the keynote address at the Third Annual BNA/ABA Section of IP Law Patent Conference. The Conference will be held on Monday, October 6, 2008 at the Ritz-Carlton in Arlington, Virginia. The Chief Judge will discuss obviousness, §101 and process claims, pattern jury instructions, inequitable conduct, willfulness, and patent reform legislation. Chief Judge Michel Will Speak at the FICPI 11th Open Forum: Chief Judge Michel will speak at the 11th Open Forum of the Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Industrielle in Florence, Italy on October 9, 2008. Judge Linn To Speak at the Sixth Annual Seton Hall Law/NJIPLA Fall Lecture Series: Judge Richard Linn will speak at the Sixth Annual Seton Hall Law/NJIPLA Fall Lecture Series on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the Newark Club in Newark, NJ. Chief Judge Michel Joins the Faculty of The Sedona Conference: Patent Litigation IX: Chief Judge Michel is part of the faculty at The Sedona Conference: Patent Litigation IX which will take place on October 17 and 18, 2008 in Sedona, Arizona. The Chief Judge will address the topics of Supreme Court patent cases in the 2007 and 2008 terms; the role of the U. S. Patent office in inter partes matters; inequitable conduct; and patent litigation at the International Trade Commission and the district courts. Registration information is available at this link.

Circuit Judges Will Speak at the AIPLA Annual Meeting: Circuit Judge Richard Linn will be the keynote speaker at the AIPLA Annual Meeting luncheon on Friday, October 24, 2008. His topic will be "Challenges Ahead." Circuit Judge Pauline Newman will present "Views from the Bench" in the track titled "Working with a Patent System in Flux and Under Attack" on Thursday, October 23, 2008. Federal Circuit Will Sit in Silicon Valley in November 2008: The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit will hold hearings in several locations in Silicon Valley, California during the week of November 3, 2008. Santa Clara University School of Law, Stanford University School of Law and the United States District Courts in San Francisco and San Jose will each host a panel of judges for oral argument during that week.

Circuit Judge Rader Will Speak on Injunctions and Remedies at the IBIL Innovation Law Seminar in London: Judge Randall Rader will speak on "Injunctions and Remedies in the Post-Troll IP World in London, England on November 11, 2008 at the Institute of Brand Law and Innovation (IBIL) Law Seminar on Patent Enforcement - Problems and Possibilities. Judge Moore to Address the Court of Federal Claims Judicial Conference: Judge Kimberly Moore will give the luncheon address at the Court of Federal Claims Judicial Conference on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, DC.

Judges of the Federal Circuit Sitting by Designation: The Chief Justice assigns circuit judges to sit by designation with another circuit court pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 291. Thus far in 2008, five Federal Circuit judges have sat by designation with a sister circuit. Five judges of the Federal Circuit had the opportunity to sit by designation with three sister circuits during calendar year 2007. A list of the Federal Circuit judges who have been so designated is available for 2007 and 2008.

Visiting Judges Sitting with the Federal Circuit: Since September 2006, twenty nine judges from circuit and district courts around the country have sat with the Federal Circuit. A list of the visiting judges who have sat with the court through June 2008 is available here.
