Brian McMahon Joins ETP as Executive Director

We are pleased to announce that Brian McMahon has been appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger as ETP's Executive Director. Prior to his appointment, Mr. McMahon served as Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Office of Regional Innovation and Transformation for the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration in Washington D.C. At the Department of Labor, he played a key role in the Agency's efforts to make the public workforce investment system optimally responsive to the talent needs of the nation's employers and the skill development of workers.

Mr. McMahon has a wide range of experience in California's economic and workforce development arenas. Before joining the U.S. Department of Labor, he was Executive Director of the California Workforce Investment Board where he led the Board's initiatives to build stronger alignment among education, economic development, employers, labor and the workforce investment system. Mr. McMahon also served as President of the California Manufacturers and Technology Association Service Corporation and managed its work with member companies in the utilization of ETP funds to support worker training projects. He has also served as Corporate Vice President and West Coast Manager for Strategic Partnerships, a Washington D.C. based firm that works to improve employer engagement with the public workforce system at both the national and state level.

"Over the last year as an official with the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration, I've had the opportunity to travel the country working with industry, labor, states and communities," said McMahon. "Regardless of industry sector or geographic location, the need to develop workers with the skills to meet the increasingly complex demands of today's workplace is dramatically growing in importance. As businesses make decisions to expand or newly locate in a community, the availability of skilled talent is now often the most important factor.

"The Employment Training Panel is the country's leading state training program and has played a significant role in improving the performance of California's workers and employers for many years. I am grateful to Governor Schwarzenegger for the opportunity to work with the broad network of partners that have contributed to ETP's success and I look forward to helping ensure that ETP continues in its role as a dynamic, innovative resource in promoting California's global economic competitiveness."
