Let's Talk About It!Let's Talk About It Returns!

After a three-year hiatus, the Downtown Library is proud to once again host Let’s Talk About It, the national book discussion program. The theme for this five-part event is “Jewish Literature–Identity and Imagination”, and will explore Jewish literature and culture through scholar-led discussions of contemporary and classic books. The focus will be ‘Neighbors:  The World Next Door’.

The first program will explore A Journey to the End of the Millennium, by A. B. Yehoshua, on Thursday, September 4. It will be followed by Red Cavalry, by Isaac Babel, on September 18; Neighbors, by Jan T. Gross, on October 2; The Assistant, by Bernard Malamud, on October 16; and Mona in the Promised Land, by Gish Jen, on October 30. All programs in the series will be held in the Main Library Auditorium beginning at 7:00 pm and will meet every other Thursday, so participants will have time to read and consider the selected titles.

“We are pleased to be among 250 libraries nation-wide that have been chosen to host this unique series. The Library is delighted to provide our patrons a chance to discuss Jewish literature with the guidance of our distinguished scholars, Drs. John and Victoria Steinberg” said Cathy Royal, Program Director.

Registration began Monday, July 7th and only a few openings remain. The first 25 patrons who sign up will have access to a set of the chosen books to use during the program. Other patrons will have the option of signing up for the discussion groups, or may attend the lecture only, without the need to enroll. For more information or to register please call 757-5310.

Sponsorship for Let’s Talk About It:  Jewish Literature–Identity and Imagination is provided nationally by the American Library Association and Nextbook, and locally by the Jewish Community Federation of Greater Chattanooga and the Friends of the Library.
