World Rabies Day 2008

 What is rabies?

· Rabies is an infectious viral disease that affects the nervous system of humans and other mammals.

· It is almost always fatal once symptoms appear.

· The most important global source of rabies in humans is from uncontrolled rabies in dogs.

· The major source of rabies in humans can be eliminated through ensuring adequate animal vaccination and control, educating those at risk, and enhancing access of those bitten to appropriate medical care.

Did you know:

· More than 55,000 people worldwide die from rabies each year. That’s one person every 10 minutes!

· Nobody should die from rabies—it is 100% preventable.

· The  best prevention of rabies is to get your pets vaccinated

In honor of World Rabies Day, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is holding two free rabies vaccination clinics for the community.
