MAG HOME

The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) is a Council of Governments (COG) that serves as the regional agency for the metropolitan Phoenix area. When MAG was formed in 1967, the elected officials recognized the need for long-range planning and policy development on a regional scale. They realized that many issues such as transportation, air quality and human services affected residents beyond the borders of their individual jurisdictions. MAG was founded in the spirit of cooperation. MAG members believe that by uniting, they can solve common problems, take an active role in long-range regional issues and address concerns that affect all of the communities. MAG is the designated metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for transportation planning in the Maricopa County region. MAG has also been designated by the Governor to serve as the principal planning agency for the region in a number of other areas, including air quality, water quality and solid waste management. In addition, through an Executive Order from the Governor, MAG develops population estimates and projections for the region. MAG Provides Maps to Homeless for Shade, Water With the thermometer shattering records this week, many throughout the region are working to ensure the triple-digit heat doesn’t cost lives. While the heat affects everyone, it can be especially dangerous to vulnerable populations such as homeless people or older adults. To help steer vulnerable populations to places that offer water or shelter, the MAG Continuum of Care Regional Committee on Homelessness has developed two maps of resources available for both those in need and for those who want to help. The first map shows where water hydration stations and refuge locations are located throughout the county, where people in need can go for water and shade. The second map shows water collection and donation sites in the county, and is useful to people wanting to donate items like water, sun block, lightweight clothing, hats, or other items that provide relief.
