1207 Q Street, N.W. is an apartment building which
presented a drug and prostitution nuisance to the neighborhood in
the Third District. The U. S. Attorney's Office contacted
the owner and informed him that this property was being used for
illegal purposes. The U. S. Attorney's Office and the Metropolitan
Police Department met with the owner and presented evidence to the
owner of the illegal activity. The owner acknowledged
the illegal activity in and around the property and informed the
Office that the property would be sold once all the tenants moved
out. The last tenant moved out of the building in November
2003 and it is currently unoccupied. The owner plans to renovate
and sell the property.
When contacted in February 2004, several neighbors stated that since the property has been
abated, the neighborhood improved almost immediately. The drug activity at the site has ended, neighbors no longer have to deal with the noise issue, and the fights which occurred late at night have also ceased. The neighbors are very pleased with the results.
