Nuisance Property Abatement Success Story

1423 Parkwood Place, N.W.
(PSA 302) (Ward 1)

The property presented a nuisance because the owner’s grandchildren were allowing illegal drugs sales to occur in and around the property. The elderly owner of the property was in need of care. The United States Attorney’s Office together with the Office of the Corporation Counsel and the Neighborhood Services Coordinator worked with the elderly owner and his guardian to ensure that he had proper care. The owner then sold the property in the Fall of 2003, thereby abating the nuisance.

A postal worker who has been working in the area for a number of years stated that he noticed a vast improvement on the block. According to the postal worker, prior to the abatement a large number of individuals would loiter in and around the property.
