1527 12th Street is an apartment located above the First Genesis Baptist Church. The tenant of the apartment allowed illegal activity to occur inside of the apartment. The U. S. Attorney’s Office contacted the owner and scheduled a meeting with her and the Metropolitan Police Department. The owner of the property acknowledged the problem, removed the tenant and assured the U.S. Attorney’s Office that the apartment would remain nuisance free. The apartment is currently used by the church for official business.

On February 23, 2004, a neighbor shared with USAO staff that residents are very happy with the action taken by the Nuisance Abatement Team. The neighborhood has experienced a remarkable improvement. The stragglers are gone, the disturbance caused by people constantly knocking on the door of the property is no longer a problem, and residents are certainly more at ease.
