Nuisance Property Abatement Success Story

2024 P Street, NW
(PSA 306)(Ward 2)

Neighbors from the Dupont Circle community began complaining to the Metropolitan Police Department in April 2004 about a house of prostitution located at 2024 P Street, N.W. The Major Narcotics Branch initiated an undercover operation at the location which resulted in n several arrests including one felony charge for operating a house of prostitution. The US Attorney’s Office Community Prosecution team assisted in this effort by coordinating the assignment of the cases and placing special emphasis on the prosecution of these defendants. In addition, the team assisted in gathering and disseminating intelligence to other prostitution units in other cities. Finally, the Community Prosecution team acted as a liaison for community members to inform the sentencing judge in the cases about their concerns regarding the property. After the abatement, a local ANC Commissioner praised the coordinated efforts of the Community Prosecution team and MPD, noting that the abatement has increased the quality of life in the neighborhood.
