Regulatory

• Sanctuary regulations went into effect on July 1, 1997. They can be found at 15 CFR 922. Copies can be found on the Sanctuary’s web page or by calling any Sanctuary office.
• Since July 1, 1997, the following regulatory changes have been implemented:
  • Promulgated regulations establishing a large "no-anchor" zone for ships greater than 50 meters in length in the Tortugas in 1998.
  • Promulgated regulations establishing the Tortugas ecological Reserve, expanding the sanctuary Boundary and establishing a permanent 151 square nautical mile "no-take" reserve.
• On recommendation of the Water Quality Steering committee and the State of Florida, the Sanctuary is pursuing No-Discharge Regulations for the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
