San Diego County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan is available online!

The San Diego County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Plan has been approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disasters related to coastal storms, earthquakes, floods, fires, landslides, etc., for the entire County of San Diego; the City of San Diego being an element of the Plan. The purpose of the Plan is to promote public understanding, support, and demand for hazard mitigation. To review the entire Plan and specifically the City of San Diego's Action Items related to disaster mitigation, visit the County of San Diego Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan web page.

Ready America
The US Department of Homeland Security kicked off the Ready America campaign in support of National Preparedness Month, September 2007. The website provides basic information (PDF) on emergency readiness, as well as an emergency supply list (PDF), information for pet owners, families (PDF), seniors and those with disabilities or special needs. You can download various brochures to better prepare, plan, and stay informed.

Bear Responsibility
On September 14th, 2006, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and the California Service Corps conducted the 2nd Annual California Day of Preparedness and the Bear Responsibility Campaign. Volunteers from the Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) will arrange to check on elderly or disabled persons on a regular basis. Contact the SDPD for further information.


Fire-Rescue Department:
Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT)

CERT San Diego helps communities build a base of emergency preparedness that communities can count on when the need arises. Together with their neighbors, team members and co-workers, build a CERT network within their own community, teaming with San Diego Fire-Rescue departments CERT San Diego team. All citizens can benefit from CERT training.
