Welcome to the Chicago Office web site. We are a field office of the Office of Science (SC), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), a Cabinet-level agency with missions spanning Science, Energy Resources, Environmental Stewardship, and National Security. As part of the DOE Office of Science, the Chicago Office is a key component of an Integrated Support Center that provides business, technical and administrative services to Headquarters and the SC Site Offices overseeing ten national laboratories, as well as other DOE programs and other Federal agencies.

The SC's ten Laboratories span the Nation and include unique scientific facilities used by scientists all around the world to explore the most challenging frontiers in science and technology. SC also supports a large share of the Nation's research at colleges, universities, and other educational institutions.

SC-CH is accountable for approximately $2.324 billion, which is about 8.7% of the total DOE budget. Of that amount, we allocated and administered $2.305 billion of Science funding, or approximately 60% of the total SC budget.
