Rogers: Great Lakes Legacy Act Should Continue |
|
U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, MI-08, issued the following statement regarding his support of renewing the Great Lakes Legacy Act, which Rogers co-sponsored. The measure is scheduled for approval later this afternoon in the U.S. House.
“Michigan residents know the Great Lakes have an enormous positive impact on our state and other Great Lakes states. The Great Lakes Legacy Act has already had an impact on improving and protecting this major resource. The Lakes provide water for 42 million people, support nearly one-third of the nation’s recreational boating, and are the basis for a major commercial and sport fishing industry. It is crucial to continue the successful efforts begun under the Great Lakes Legacy Act as we work to develop new and more effective technologies for combating toxic sediments and protecting the lakes, which make up 95 percent of the surface freshwater of the entire United States.” |
