House Passes Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (NY-4) Bill to Preserve Historic Accounts of the Civil Rights Movement
Thursday September 18, 2008On Wednesday, September 17, 2008, the House of Representatives passed a bill authored by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (NY-4) that would catalogue and preserve the stories and experiences of Americans who were involved with the civil rights movement. The bill, H.Res. 998–the Civil Rights Oral History Project, will create a joint effort between the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Library of Congress to collect oral histories of the people that were involved in the civil rights movement and preserve their stories for future generations.
