November 6, 2007 –  Members of the DoD IG Inspections and Evaluations (I&E) Directorate recently briefed the 95th Annual National Safety Council (NSC) Congress and 3rd Annual DoD Safety and Occupational Health (SOH ) Forum.

The DoD IG group included Mr. Mr. William “Brem” Morrison, Assistant Inspector General for I&E, Mr. George Marquardt and Lt. Cmdr. Robert Cooper.  The NSC Congress and the DoD Safety and Health Forum were held in Chicago on October 15-17, 2007.

Mr. Morrison was one of the featured speakers for the NSC Congress.  On October 15th, he presented a briefing on the DoD IG’s “Evaluation of the DOD Safety Program.”  The NSC Congress attracted over 16,000 safety and occupational health specialists from around the world.

On October 16th, Mr. Morrison briefed the 3rd Annual DoD SOH Forum and participated on the panel that explored the strategic challenges of transforming the DoD safety program and culture.  The Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics sponsored the SOH Forum, which is held in conjunction with the NSC Congress.  This year’s theme was “Beyond Compliance: A Focus on Culture.”  DoD safety and health professionals from all levels—installation, Service, Joint Staff, and OSD—attended this forum to discuss strategic and operational initiatives to improve the SOH programs and share best practices and lessons learned.
