    •  The military service academies contribute only about 20 percent of the officer corps in any given year. Are they worth the $400,000 or so they cost taxpayers per student? And do they produce the superior caliber of "leaders" they claim to -- as opposed to those produced by college ROTC programs and Officer Candidate School? Is there an alternative role they could be playing?

  7. CHDS' 2012 Dr. William J. Perry Award for Excellence in Security and Defense Education has been awarded to the Regional Security System (Barbados) and the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation in the institutional category, and to Canadian Defense Minister Peter MacKay in the individual category.

  10. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is building upon existing joint training for a cybersecurity workforce, guided by the National Initiative for Cyberspace Education. "DISA and our cyber partners, including the National Defense University, have really important roles in helping to augment that training and setting some of those standards," said Henry Sienkiewicz, DISA's vice chief information assurance executive.
