WHY ECBC?

ECBC is unique in its ability to advance the mission of the warfighter and other stakeholders by leveraging unique expertise, specialized equipment and state-of-the-art facilities.

  • ECBC scientists conduct sample analysis onboard research vessel for Hawaii Underwater Military Munitions Assessment project.
  • An expanded robotic grasping capability could improve the way emergency response teams observe areas of devastation by increasing the effectiveness of robotic operations while reducing human risk at dangerous on-site locations.
  • Dan O’Neill, mechanical engineer at ECBC, mentors students at Bohemia Manor High School in Cecil County also known as ‘Baybillies’, to help them compete in this year’s FTC robotics competition.
  • The Mask Issue facility serves all on-post chemical workers who are required to have two M40A1 masks properly fitted and cleared for use at any given time.
  • In addition to the life-saving equipment and ChemBio expertise ECBC provides to the Warfighter on a daily basis, the Center sent words of encouragement and gratitude to Warfighters to thank them for their service and commitment to our country.
  • The RAIDON uses colorimetric technology to detect and classify nerve agent within a matter of minutes.

Genomics Sequencing Center Key to Our Nation's Biodefense

Joseph Wienand, technical director of ECBC, and Lauren McNew, an ECBC scientist, introduce the ECBC Genomics Sequencing Center. ECBC is sequencing the DNA of pathogens for identification and characterization. That information is then being used to develop countermeasures and therapeutics.

Improved Spork for Buffalo Mine Protective Clearance Vehicle (MPCV)

In an effort to field an immediate solution that would protect the Warfighter from Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), ECBC partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) to develop and produce an Improved Spork for the Buffalo Mine Protective Clearance Vehicle (MPCV).
