The National Ocean Service, an office within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (or NOAA), is leading the way to understand, predict, and respond to challenges such as the impacts of climate change on coastal communities, marine debris, pollution, water quality, erosion, port congestion, and population growth.

We are working to make sure that America's oceans and coasts are safe, healthy, and productive. Our scientists, natural resource managers, and specialists provide tools and services to protect coastal communities, observe our oceans and coasts, ensure safe and efficient marine transportation, reduce ocean and coastal health risks, and conserve coastal and marine places.

NOS encourages visitors to comment on NOS photos; however, any comments that meet the following criteria will be deleted:

- Contains vulgar language, personal attacks of any kind, or offensive terms that target specific ethnic or racial groups
- Promotes products or services (non-commercial links that are relevant to the National Ocean Service are acceptable)
