U.S. Faculty Scholar Grant

print version Print version

  • The applicant may request a VEF grant that does not exceed U.S. $55,000. The exact amount will depend on the proposed budgetary needs as expressed by the Faculty Scholar, which may include the purchase of videoconferencing and other equipment for the Vietnamese university or universities. The VEF grant monies can only be used toward the specific U.S. Faculty Scholar Program as proposed and approved. Grant monies cannot be used to pay for a substitute to take the place of the U.S. Faculty Scholar.
  • VEF cannot provide, through the grant or separately, any overhead to the U.S. university or to the Vietnamese universities. VEF will pay the grant directly to the U.S. Faculty Scholar or, if directed by the U.S. Faculty Scholar, through his/her U.S. university. VEF cannot list a U.S. university as the administrator of the grant because the applicant that applied for the grant, if approved, is awarded the VEF U.S. Faculty Scholar grant.  The VEF grant is issued in the name of the U.S. Faculty Scholar, but grant monies can be sent to the U.S. university to administer to the U.S. Faculty Scholar, if so desired by the U.S. Faculty Scholar.
  • The U.S. Faculty Scholar must arrange for Emergency Medical Evacuation Insurance before leaving the United States. VEF can provide information about such insurance, if requested.  At the end of the course(s), any teaching materials and equipment purchased by the grant must be given to the Vietnamese host universities with a written statement that these items were donated by the Vietnam Education Foundation.
  • As determined in advance together with the grant applicant, the Vietnamese host university should provide direct and/or in-kind financial support and set the teaching conditions. The U.S. university should also provide direct and/or in-kind financial support. It is the responsibility of the applicant to clarify and confirm in writing all financial support in advance of submitting the grant application. In order to meet U.S. government requirements according to the Fly America Act, U.S. Faculty Scholars must fly on a U.S. airline, which can be code-shared with another airline, both within the United States and on travel to and from Vietnam.
