Why register for an AESDirect Account?

AESDirect is a free filing tool that processes Electronic Export Information (EEI) to the Automated Export System (AES).

Export shipments that previously required a paper Shippers Export Declaration (SED) must now be filed electronically to the Automated Export System. Once the EEI pertaining to your individual shipments is processed by AES and accepted, an Internal Transaction Number (ITN) will be generated. This number is a proof of filing and must be posted on your loading documents prior to exportation. At the port of export, a Customs and Border Protection Officer may verify the authenticity of the ITN. A missing, or invalid Proof of Filing Citation may lead to delays, fines and/or penalties.

About your AESDirect account:

1. Confidential- AESDirect undergoes stringent security requirements to protect your export data from being viewed by outside parties.
2. 24/7 Availability- Since the AES is an automated system, EEI may be filed any day at any time.
3. Quick responses- The AES generates a response regarding your EEI within minutes of filing. All responses are available in AESDirect and sent via e-mail as well. If the shipment is accepted, the ITN is generated. If the shipment is rejected, you will receive a response message indicating its reason for rejection.
4. Profiles- Profiles can be created to store the information required in the USPPI and/or Ultimate Consignee section. Whether you’re an Authorized Agent filing on behalf of different companies or you are the USPPI shipping to recurring customers overseas, creating profiles eliminate the need to enter the USPPI section or Ultimate Consignee section in each shipment. You can simply load already created Profiles and the system will populate the information stored on file.
5. Templates- A Template is a skeleton form of a shipment. If your company has recurring shipments from the same USPPI to the same Ultimate Consignee, exporting the same commodity, creating and using a template will save you time.
6. Manage your Account- Users can update their e-mail or passwords on file. Account Administrators can update the Company’s information; create and delete accounts for users within their company; and/or reset passwords.

How to Register for an AESDirect Account

1. Submit Registration Form
   
   Use Register New Account to complete and submit the AESDirect Registration form. After your registration information has been validated and accepted, an e-mail will be sent to the address specified as the Account Administrator for confirmation.
   
   
2. Review, Verify and Confirm Information Submitted
   
   After an individual has submitted their registration form, the person designated as the Account Administrator will receive an e-mail with directions to confirm the address and continue the registration process.
   
   
3. Create Username and Password
   
   Once the Account information is confirmed, you will receive instructions to create your username and password.
   
   
4. Download User Guide/ Sample Shipment
   
   The User Guide provides all the information necessary to get acquainted with the system. Also available is a Sample Shipment. This document is a screen-by-screen depiction of a mock shipment reported through the AESDirect system.
   
   
5. Take Certification Quiz
   
   Before you can start filing your EEI, you must pass a Certification Quiz. This quiz confirms that you have the knowledge necessary to complete an EEI in AESDirect. It is composed of 30 multiple-choice questions. Please note if you do not take this quiz within 30 days your AESDirect Account will be deleted and you will need to re-register. You may take the quiz as many times as necessary to pass. Review the User Guide before taking the quiz. Once you have passed, your account will be activated.
