The manual Crime Analysis for Problem Solvers in 60 Small Steps outlines a role in which the crime analyst invests heavily in seeking new responses to the policing problems that are diagnosed and participates directly in efforts to test and implement them. The most immediate goal of the manual is to help crime analysts to expand their function and thereby contribute to the effectiveness of their agency's operations. To do this, Google Earth combines MSN Search with the latest in mapping to create a new Web application built on Microsoft technology. Google Earth provides labeled aerial photos, multiple searches, and locations on the map.

Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC)

The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is a data gathering, data research, and data distribution organization associated with Syracuse University. TRAC provides information from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), U.S. Drug Enforcement Adminstration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
