CONGRESSWOMAN FREDERICA WILSON MEETS WITH SURVIVORS OF GUN VIOLENCE TO DISCUSS COMMONSENSE SOLUTIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-FL) continued her focus on gun violence. The Congresswoman met with two constituents whose lives were impacted by this growing problem that is destroying families and communities. Kanisha Gross and Carol Gardner spoke with the Congresswoman about their husband and son Herbert Gross, III, who was shot and killed by AK-47 while driving to a friend’s home near Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood. Congresswoman Wilson issued the following statement:

“For me, gun violence is not just another issue – it’s personal. I have helped to bury too many people from my own community because of gun violence. I have seen too many young, talented, and beautiful children lose their lives. As a member of Congress, I am committed to enacting sensible and effective laws to prevent mass shootings. I commend Mrs. Gross and Ms. Gardner for speaking to me about their loved ones and for working to prevent unnecessary violence in our neighborhoods and schools.”

Mrs. Gross and Ms. Gardner are in Washington, D.C. as part of the “Demand a Plan Campaign,” a program of  Mayors Against Illegal Guns. More than 100 gun violence survivors traveled to the nation’s Capitol for President Obama’s State of the Union Address and to discuss solutions to the crisis of gun violence with Members of Congress.

“In Congress, I will be working hand-in-hand with the White House to adopt and implement President Obama’s plan to prevent gun violence. I know that every single act of gun violence can’t be stopped. But as a mother, educator and Congresswoman, I won’t let that stop me from trying,”

Congresswoman Wilson is available for comment.
