Capitol Movement (Dancers)

tour schedule

Founded in 2005, The Capitol Movement Dance Company is a diverse and vibrant repertory group that provides a platform for local and international choreographers to showcase their innovative work and elevate the quality and integrity of cultural jazz and hip hop dance in Washington, DC. The Company performs concerts brimming with artistically excellent, and varied pieces that create a unique appeal to experienced dance enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

The adult company has been praised for having "captivating energy, enthusiasm, range and skill of dancers,” by Michael Clements, Executive Editor of Washington Life Magazine. Pamela Sorensen founder and creator of pamelaspunch.com (acclaimed for getting the "who, what, when, where" of Washington, DC's social and philanthropic scene) also praised the group for giving her a "visceral reaction, which included chills and tears".

The hour-long dance concert being performed during their Capitol Movement tour with Armed Forces Entertainment tour is a tribute to our men and women serving in the armed forces in honor of Veteran's Day. The performance features dance styles such as hip hop, jazz, modern, tap, and contemporary.

Capitol Movement Freedom Tour 2012

The Capitol Movement dancers recently went on tour with Armed Forces Entertainment and performed for our men and women serving in the armed forces. From October 27th through November 15th the Freedom Tour traveled to countries such as Greece, Portugal, Spain, and Egypt. Their performances featured dance styles such as hip-hop, jazz, modern, tap, and contemporary.

One of the stops the group made was in Souda Bay in Crete, Greece. Upon arriving to Souda Bay, the dancers were excited to see that their show had been promoted all around the base and the walls were decorated with their fliers. A few of the cast members even got the chance to do a short interview with the on-base radio station, an Armed Forces Network affiliate.

After the show, cast members met with soldiers and spent some time getting to know service men and women during dinner, a Halloween party, and a Haunted House. The cast members were grateful for the opportunity to perform for the troops and thanked them for their service.

While in Lisbon, Portugal, the cast members got to do a little exploring and ate at a well-known authentic Portuguese restaurant called Fogo de Chao. After rehearsal, the group was escorted on a sightseeing excursion. They were able to see many incredible sights while in Portugal along with performing for the many service men and women that are stationed there.
