Sen. Franken's Statement on Nomination of Tom Perez to Serve as Labor Secretary

Monday, March 18, 2013

Today , U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) released the following statement after President Obama nominated Tom Perez to serve as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor:

"I'm pleased that the President has nominated Tom Perez to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor. His background as a civil rights attorney and as an advocate for our nation's most vulnerable makes me confident he will build upon the great work done by Secretary Hilda Solis.

"I've been particularly impressed by the work Mr. Perez has done as the head of the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice, where he's fought to make sure that everyone-including people with disabilities, immigrants, and those in the LGBT community-can work in a safe and fair environment.

"As a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee that will consider Mr. Perez's nomination, I look forward to hearing how he plans to use this new role to help working families, and hope that the Senate will quickly confirm him."
