  • Police Protective Equipment Program Funding Available

    DCJS is accepting requests for applications for funding of police protective equipment designed to better protect officers responding to active shooter incidents, terrorist attacks or other criminal events. The deadline for applications is noon on Thursday, Nov. 17.

  • New state-supported Crime Analysis Center serves the North Country

    Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the opening of a Crime Analysis Center to serve five North Country counties and expand the state’s network of intelligence and data sharing centers to the Canadian and Vermont borders. The North Country Crime Analysis Center is the newest of seven supported by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services in partnership with police agencies and prosecutors’ offices in 13 counties.

    Located at the Franklin County Public Safety Building in Malone, the Center is a joint venture between the state and 12 law enforcement agencies in Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties.

  • New York State Troopers honored with Governor’s Police Officer of the Year award

    Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recently honored New York State Troopers Donald L. Atkinson and Lawrence F. Gurdo II as recipients of the Police Officer of the Year Award. The troopers were recognized for helping rescue a 14-year-old girl from the waters of the Whitney Point Reservoir in Broome County last summer. Both men braved cold water and an extremely strong undercurrent to pull the teen to safety from reservoir dam, near the mouth of a quarter-mile-long intake tunnel.

  • Youth Pardon Program

    Governor Andrew M. Cuomo is offering executive pardons to New Yorkers convicted of non-violent crimes at ages 16 and 17 who have been crime-free for a minimum of 10 years since their offense.

    For individuals who receive this pardon, the New York State Office of Court Administration has stated that it will restrict public access to criminal history records, meaning that they will not be available to private employers, landlords or other companies that seek this information.

  • Pro Bono Clemency Program

    To assist individuals in applying for clemency, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo is partnering with several organizations from the legal community to provide free clemency petition services to individuals incarcerated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

    Although individuals may apply for clemency without the assistance of an attorney, free assistance from one will enhance the quality of an inmate’s application and present his or her best case to the Governor. Please contact PardonsAndCommutations@doccs.ny.gov to learn more about this program.
