ABOUT THE GOVERNOR
David Ige
Governor David Y. Ige was sworn in as the eighth governor of the State of Hawai‘i on December 1, 2014. He became the fourth native-born Governor of Hawai‘i and first governor in the United States of America of Okinawan descent.
The First Lady
Dawn Amano-Ige became the first lady of Hawaii when her husband, Governor David Ige, was sworn in as the 8th governor of the State of Hawaii on December 1, 2014. Mrs. Ige was born in Ewa, Hawaii.

We’ve probably all been there — fighting traffic gridlock, avoiding potholes and wondering what the state Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) is doing about our roads. Gov. David Ige signed an extension to the emergency proclamation originally signed on Sept. 16, to provide relief for disaster damages, losses and suffering following September’s heavy rains and flooding on Maui. The Supplementary Proclamation can be found here:
Gov. Ige on the passing of Rep. Clift Tsuji:
Representative Clift Tsuji was a quiet man with a big heart who had the courage to stand for his convictions. He was a passionate leader and a vigorous advocate for the Hilo community. His legacy of service will be remembered by his constituents and all Hawaii Island residents. He was a personal friend, and I am going to miss his presence at the State Capitol. Dawn and I send our condolences to his sons, Ryan and Ashley.
