High Wage, High Skill and High Demand jobs are today’s in-demand jobs. Occupations are high wage when at least half of their wage measures are at or above the regional average for all occupations. Occupations that require some college, no degree or a higher level of educational attainment are high skill, as well as occupations that require a high school diploma or equivalent plus long-term on-the-job training, an apprenticeship, or internship/residency. The number of annual openings, net change in employment, and growth rate determine whether an occupation is high demand. An occupation must be High Wage, High Skill and High Demand to be an H3 occupation. For more information on the methodology for H3 occupations, click here.
H3 data is useful to economic developers and community leaders who wish to fill in-demand occupations as well as educators, students and their parents, and job seekers who are planning career paths. The Nebraska Departments of Labor, Economic Development, and Education collaborated to provide information on Nebraska’s High Wage, High Skill and High Demand occupations.
H3 occupations with the most job openings in Nebraska this week are listed below (date pulled [November 15, 2016]). The Nebraska Department of Labor, Office of Labor Market Information identifies H3 occupations, and NEworks provides the number of job openings.
Nebraska Career Clusters group national Career Clusters into larger career cluster fields. There are 16 national career clusters that group occupations in the same field and with similar required skills. The Nebraska Career Clusters Model can expose students and job seekers to related careers and assist them with career planning.
